Slowly but surely it finally looks like this little dreamy company of mine is becoming a reality.... dreamy?, you ask.... yes, dreamy, because it took me so long to really get used to the idea that I can actually turn these beautiful crafts into a business.
It's been a few months, but I still chuckle every time someone asks or I have to explain what type of business I own. I just can't believe that I'm actually calling what I do a business.... but apparently everyone loves this stuff!
So what type of business, you ask?
It all started a few months back when I decided to make a gift for a pregnant friend. I wanted her to feel special by giving her a hand made gift. So I looked up a few ideas online and came across several diaper cake tutorials. I made my first diaper cake and it was A.MA.ZING!! Everyone raved about the cake and inspired me to start my own company.
A few months later my husband encouraged me to design my website and start promoting my business. I was full steam ahead the first couple of months - contacting boutiques, hospitals and friends. Getting the word out about my. new. company. The website was under construction and we seemed to be making progress, but something was lacking.... I just didn't really believe it was going to work.... Diaper cakes, really? What was I thinking?!?
I made a few sales which made me very excited and kept my steam going. The holidays came and I got involved with several community service projects, holiday shopping, visiting family and vacation. My new venture took a backseat to family and friends and shut down for the season.
We returned from our road trip vacation and I was simply BURNT OUT! The winter blues set in and before I knew it I was just not that into it. Who hosts a baby shower in the middle of winter anyways?
So I took a couple of months off and decided that spring would bring back the life in me.... and so it did!
My 35th birthday came about and spring sprung within me! I had new found energy and was ready to share my wonderful creations with the world!! So I got my act together and designed a few more samples inspired by the season. My new cakes were beautiful and were followed by a wave of phenomenal compliments.

I WAS BACK IN ACTION!!
My hubby encouraged me to attend my first show EVER - at the YMCA - during Mother's Day weekend. It was a wonderful idea! I had a fantastic time showing off my master pieces and sucking in all the magnificent words of encouragement from a very impressed audience. It felt SO GOOD to hear their praise! I couldn't believe my little crafts were so impressive.
So here I stand today, working on a branding package, redoing my website to go live on Amazon.com, looking into lucrative marketing and advertising ideas to boost sales and scanning the local listing for arts and crafts fairs to get the word out about my cakes....
I haven't been this excited since..... well, my last baby!! I can't wait to nourish my new business to help it grow and bloom like a beautiful exotic flower in a field of wilderness.
What dreams to come? I hope that my organizational skills and OCD tendencies pay off now. As my husband said "I need to get really organized and focus on my new baby this time". I know I can do it.... he knows I can too.
